Man and woman killed after car careers off M6 and crashes into woodland


A man in his 30s and woman in her 20s have died in a horror crash on the M6.

The tragic news comes after police confirmed a Mazda3 careered off the northbound motorway and crashed into woodland between between junctions 32 and 33 north of Preston, Lancashire.

Emergency service rushed to the scene – including police, fire and ambulance personnel.

Both the driver of the vehicle and the front seat passenger were sadly found dead at the scene, reports Lancashire Live.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “We were called at around 4pm to reports of a collision on the M6 motorway between junction 32 and 33.

“Officers attended and sadly two people, the driver of the vehicle and the front seat passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene.

“Their next of kin are being informed and our thoughts remain with them at this time.

“The northbound carriageway remained closed for several hours while collision investigators examined the scene

Sgt Craig Booth, of Lancashire Police Tactical Operations team, added: “These are very sad and tragic circumstances and my thoughts are with the couple’s loved ones at this time.

“The vehicle involved has left the M6 northbound carriageway and crashed into some adjacent woodland.

“While our investigation into the circumstances is very much ongoing there are not thought to be any other vehicles involved.”

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called at 16:21hrs to reports of a road traffic collision on the M6 motorway, northbound carriageway between junction 32 and 33.

“Three fire crews, from Preston, Fulwood and Lancaster attended and assisted in making the scene safe.”

The carriageway was closed for nearly nine hours today as investigators worked at the scene.
